Horsemanship Lessons at Silver Oak Stables

At Silver Oak Stables, we believe that the foundation of a successful riding school is built on horsemanship, groundwork, and a comprehensive education on horse health and wellbeing. Our philosophy centers around the holistic care and keeping of horses, ensuring that both horses and humans thrive in a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment.

  • A passion for horses encompasses more than just the joy of riding. It involves understanding and addressing the physical, mental, and emotional needs of these magnificent animals through dedicated study and hands-on practice. Our commitment to safety for both horse and rider is paramount and is cultivated through a foundation of respect and mutual understanding.

  • We emphasize the importance of building trust and confidence between horse and rider. This is achieved through gentle, positive, and correct handling and riding skills. Recognizing that riding is a privilege, we strive to ensure that every interaction with our horses is respectful and considerate.

  • Horses are emotionally intelligent beings with their own unique desires and needs. At Silver Oak Stables, we teach our students to understand and appreciate the way horses interact with each other and their environment. This understanding shapes our approach to training and riding, fostering a deeper bond and more effective communication between horse and rider.

  • Proper rider biomechanics play a crucial role in becoming a better partner for our horses. By understanding and implementing correct riding techniques, we can positively influence our horses' performance and overall wellbeing. Our educational approach ensures that riders develop a keen awareness of their own bodies and how their movements impact their equine partners.

  • We utilize the HorseSense Learning Levels program to guide our young riders as they blossom and grow into well-rounded horsepeople. Each level of the program is designed to build upon the previous one, ensuring that students are confident and competent in their skills as they progress. This structured approach allows our students to set and achieve their personal goals, all while building a solid foundation in all aspects of horsemanship.

At Silver Oak Stables, our philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for horses and a commitment to providing a comprehensive education in horsemanship. We believe that through understanding, respect, and proper training, both horses and riders can achieve their fullest potential. Our goal is to create a community of passionate, knowledgeable, and compassionate horsepeople who appreciate the privilege of riding and the unique bond they share with their equine partners.

I recently took my 3 grand kiddos for lessons at Silver Oak after searching and searching for a place that honors and supports a deeper learning than just technique.

My 5 yr old grandson had never been on a horse and I had concerns about his ability to move slowly, carefully and give his full attention.

My 8 yr old granddaughter was quite afraid but interested.

My 9 yr old had some experience trail riding and grooming. She couldn’t wait to learn more.

Leah, Dore and the environment were so welcoming. Dore gave each of the kids very personal attention. Not one size fits all teaching. She met them where they were at with attention and care.

Each of them was glowing and strengthened by the experience. They are in love. Me too.

I could not recommend more highly.
