Our Team
Leah Daniels - Owner
Immersed in the equestrian world for over 25 years, Leah began with eventing and progressed to higher levels through dedicated training and competition. Along this journey, she has been fortunate to learn from esteemed professionals such as Yves Sauvignon, Debbie Port, Valerie Bertoli, Susan Jan Hornstein, and Nathalie Guion. Her experience spans working with diverse horses, from spirited off-the-track Thoroughbreds to robust Morgan breeds. Volunteering at horse rescues further enriched her skills, aiding neglected or abused horses in their recovery, retraining, and trust-building process.
Rooted in classical riding, Leah's expertise extends to training young horses and rehabilitating "problem" horses, emphasizing trust and confidence building. She advocates for holistic approaches, blending cross-training methods for physical and mental well-being, including groundwork, bodywork, trails, flatwork, and polework in the arena. Her background also encompasses diverse stable management roles, from non-profit rescues to private barns and veterinary clinics, shaping her vision for Silver Oak, where safety and meticulous care tailored to each horse's needs are paramount.
In addition to hands-on experience, Leah is passionate about teaching and sharing her knowledge with others. She offers personalized instruction to riders and horse handlers of all levels, focusing on developing strong foundational skills and building harmonious relationships between horse and rider. Her teaching approach is tailored to each individual, ensuring that every student gains confidence, competence, and a deeper understanding of horsemanship.

Dore Hayes - Instructor
Dore is a horse trainer and riding instructor with over thirty years professional experience with horses in a wide variety of disciplines. She emphasizes understanding of horse biomechanics and communication for effective, fair training. She is intuitive and patient, and her approach to lessons and training is energetic, creative, and always compassionately tailored to the individual student and horse in order to keep learning fun. Whether equine or human, science and common sense support the theory that every creature learns best when they feel safe, so we strive to facilitate a warm, positive learning environment in which both horses and humans can feel happy and that their voice is heard. Dore’s training philosophy is, “The horse will tell me.”
With a passion for social justice, Dore concurrently studied child development at SRJC and has volunteered hundreds of hours with at risk youth. It was an obvious step to combine her passion for child welfare with her devotion to the best interest of the horse, and become a riding teacher. Horses have a profound, beneficial impact on all aspects of child development, from physical strength, balance and proprioception to emotional regulation, compassion, and observation of the language of another species, horses bring countless benefits, especially to anyone who seeks healing. By educating the next generation of equestrians about gentle, kind training techniques, and the importance of listening to what horses are trying to communicate rather than simply controlling them, we are empowering them to be a force for good and contribute to positive change in the way we interact with horses and the world at large.
Throughout her years working with horses, Dore has remained committed to her own continuous growth and learning, understanding the subtleties of what horses are trying to communicate, what they are feeling, and ensuring that any work she does benefits the horse as much as herself. She has a voracious appetite for knowledge and takes every opportunity to learn by taking lessons, classes, webinars and attending clinics. The horse, however, remains forever her primary teacher.
